With the COVID-19 quarantine in place, there is an increase in reported domestic abuse cases across the country. Sara Meier, Executive Director of InCourage in Manitowoc County, said her organization is taking extra precautions when meeting in person with victims of sexual assault & domestic abuse. Meier said that includes talking with the victim in meeting rooms that can accommodate social distancing as well as both staff and victims wearing masks.
InCourage is also taking extra precautions in the shelter and they’re especially grateful each bedroom has its’ own bathroom right now. Meier explained, “they know that home is ‘not’ a safe place for everyone” and she encourages victims to call to talk about their situation, provided it’s safe to do so.
InCourage is staffed 24-hours a day and to reach the Crisis Line, call 684-5770.
