Manitowoc Lincoln High School has determined a course of action with respect to ‘Graduation’ during this coronavirus shutdown. Lincoln Principal Lee Thennes tells us they’ll have a decision made about the June 12th graduation date by the end of the day on Friday, May 29th. Thennes continued, “If we can’t hold graduation (ceremonies) on Friday, June 12th ” the administration will make a decision one week prior on the 5th to see if the outdoor program can be rescheduled for either June 27th, or a rain date of the 28th. If none of those dates work, two alternate days in July are in the planning process.
Meanwhile, Lincoln has decided to utilize a “Pass/Fail” grading structure for the 4th quarter and semester, instead of receiving a letter grade. Thennes explained “We realize that Pass/Fail may ‘not’ be the preferred method of all staff & students. However, these unpredictable & ever-changing times call for unprecedented & extraordinary responses.” He also said “most colleges & universities, as well as area high schools have determined that the Pass/Fail method of grading is the most equitable & reasonable grading option.”
The Lincoln principal and others from school took-a-drive-around town this morning to “wave at kids and see families…while practicing social distancing.” He said “there was an amazing turnout by both staff, students and community members” with the 50-minute route through the city taking them through various neighborhoods.
