The health department confirmed that one person from Manitowoc County died late Saturday from the novel coronavirus infection.
“We are saddened by this death and our hearts go out to the family, friends, and community,” Health Officer Mary Halada said. “We strongly encourage our residents to follow the Safer at Home Order extension unless activities are essential. That is the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of our community.”
People with confirmed infections have a range of symptoms, from little to no symptoms to people being severely sick and dying. For many, symptoms are mild, with no fever.
The Manitowoc County Health Department says, “It is important to know that you can still spread (transmit) the virus to others even if you have mild or no symptoms. Individuals with symptoms are encouraged to contact their health care provider for an evaluation and possible testing.”
The first laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19 in Manitowoc County was reported on April 3rd.
As of 3 pm on Sunday, Manitowoc County has 11 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 308 negative test results.
