Legendary Green Bay quarterback Bart Starr will be at the Packers’ home game against New Orleans on Sunday. But he does not plan to attend Saturday’s 50th anniversary reunion of the 1967 Super Bowl champion team that also won the “Ice Bowl” against Dallas on a 13 below day at Lambeau Field. The 83-year-old Starr has been recovering from a heart attack and a series of strokes — but he’s in better health now, so his family will join former teammates at the Saints’ contest Sunday. Starr has not been to Green Bay since 2015, when he helped Brett Favre celebrate the unveiling of his Number Four on the Lambeau façade.
“Comeback starts now.” That’s what Aaron Rodgers wrote on Instagram, after the Packers’ quarterback had surgery Thursday on the broken right collarbone he suffered last weekend. Rodgers posted a photo from his hospital bed — he said the surgery “went well” — and he thanked fans for all the “love, support, thoughts, and prayers.” Now, the Packers must decide how to handle the recovery process and decide whether to keep him on the Green Bay roster or put him on injured reserve, thus allowing him to return in eight weeks if the Packers are in the playoffs at that point. Linebacker Clay Matthews says he’s surprised the officials did not throw a flag on Minnesota linebacker Anthony Barr after he drove Rodgers’ throwing shoulder into the ground following his hit. Meanwhile, Packers’ linebacker Ahmad Brooks did not practice Thursday after being limited Wednesday with a back injury — and that was the only change to the team’s injury report.
