There are still a lot of questions about what will happen when school resumes this fall in Wisconsin. State lawmakers listened to almost seven hours of testimony earlier this week about the return to class after schools were shut down by the coronavirus pandemic. Some local school leaders said they are disappointed the 87 pages of recommendations from the state Department of Public Instruction were light on specifics. They still aren’t sure what the school year should look like and how it will work.
U-S Senator Ron Johnson says all schools in Wisconsin should open for in-person classes this fall despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Johnson said during a Milwaukee Press Club briefing, “it would be crazy to not completely re-open our schools system.” The Wisconsin Republican claims the risk of children getting COVID-19 in schools is low and said that virtual learning results have been mixed. Johnson opposed business and school shutdowns in Wisconsin when the coronavirus outbreak began.
