A new sports book has been published to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Two Rivers Washington High School winning its’ first state football championship.
Denver author, Jody Pritzl, spoke with Seehafer News earlier this week about her book, “That Championship Year” for the Raiders. Pritzl attended Washington High School and was there that day, November 15th, 1980 when Two Rivers defeated Rice Lake 17-15 at Stevens Point for its’ first of three consecutive state titles. Jody explained she “always wanted to write a book about it.”
Dennis Jacobs, a former Raiders player during that time has since passed away. Pritzl talked about how hard Dennis and his teammates had worked, since they were little boys.
From a historical perspective, Two Rivers was the first-ever football team in Wisconsin to capture three straight championships. Manitowoc Lincoln would repeat the Raiders feat in 1984 through 1986 while compiling what was then a state record 48-game winning streak.
To write the book, Jody talked with many of the Raiders players and at last count, at least 28-times with colorful head coach Jerry Bonino. Pritzl in dedicated almost a full chapter to his legacy.
The author said “That Championship Year” talks about football, but it “also refers to a special time of growing up in the lakeshore area.” Pritzl said the book is available at Amazon.com.
