For the first time in 2021, the number of new COVID-19 cases reported yesterday by the Manitowoc County Health Department outweighed the number of recoveries.
50 new cases were added, alongside 34 recoveries, which means the pandemic totals are now at 6,245 cases, 5,228 recoveries, and 966 cases remain active. Also, the number of people receiving treatment for the virus in the 10 hospitals in the Northeast Region rose by 3 to 105.
There is a bit of good news, however, as there have not been any new deaths reported since December 28th, with that total remaining stagnant at 51.
Of those deaths, 14 were under 75 years old, 16 were between 76 and 85 years old, and 21 were over the age of 86. 34 of those individuals lived in Manitowoc, 5 in Two Rivers, and the remaining 12 were from other cities and villages inĀ Manitowoc County.
In Sheboygan County, however, 2 more people have died, raising their death toll to 96. One of those individuals was in the 70 to 79-year-old age group, and the other was over the age of 80.
Also, 95 more cases were reported by the Division of Public Health, and 81 more people were added to the recovered column. This brings the pandemic totals up to 11,609 cases, 10,665 recoveries, and 848 cases remaining active.
