There are now two more members of the Manitowoc Police Department.
Officers Casey Clarksen and Jacob Shillcox were sworn in on Monday by City Clerk Deborah Neuser. We spoke with Police Chief Nick Reimer, who said they both come to the Department from Two Rivers. He said that Shillcox, “was also our Community Service Worker intern here, so we got to know him at the Police Department, and we are actually sending him through the Police Recruit Academy at Fox Valley Technical College.”
Officer Clarksen, meanwhile, “had interviewed for us, had in the meantime gained part time employment with the Two Rivers Police Department. Once we had another full-time position available here at the Manitowoc Police Department, we were happy to have him come on board.” Nationally, some Police Departments have had troubles filling their open positions, but Reimer said that is not the case locally. Chief Reimer says he feels that is “partly because it’s a great city to live in, but also hopefully people like the way we run this Police Department. Locally we are doing a good job with the community, and have people who are interested in becoming patrol officers. It’s a bit of a calling. It’s a very difficult job that not everybody can do.”
Mayor Justin Nickels was also very happy to see some new faces wearing the blue uniform. “It’s always a good thing when you see an Officer getting sworn in,” Nickels told SeehaferNews.com. “It means that they went through a lot of work, it means that our Chief and Supervisors feel that this individual is a perfect fit for Manitowoc, and it means that we have invested a lot of time and energy into this individual and they are ready to go out on their own to make Manitowoc a more safe community.”
Officer Shillcox is currently attending an 18 week Law Enforcement Academy at Fox Valley Technical College, and upon completion will begin his four month long field training program at the department. Officer Clarksen meanwhile, is beginning his field training program right out of the gate.
