The majority leader of the Wisconsin Assembly says the COVID-19 relief bill passed by the Senate “falls short of the needs” of state residents.
Republican Jim Steineke released that statement Tuesday. Steineke says the bill fails to provide protections for places of worship, doesn’t allow people to opt-out of the COVID vaccine when they want to, and fails to stop local health officers from shutting down businesses on a whim, without approval from elected officials.
Democratic Governor Tony Evers has indicated he would sign the legislation approved by the Republican-led Senate.
Steineke says the Assembly will have a response later this month.
