Kaila J. Koerner, age 74 of Two Rivers, passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, February 6, 2021 at the Aurora Baycare Medical Center, Green Bay.
Kaila was born in Two Rivers on February 20, 1946 to Frank and Clara (Christoffel) Shimek. She attended St. Mark’s Grade School and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1964. On June 20, 1975, she married John W. Koerner in Manitowoc. She was employed with the Metal Ware Corp. of Two Rivers for many years. Kaila had a great love for her dogs and participated in many dog obedience shows throughout the U.S. and Canada. She held the office of treasurer for many years as a member of the Green Bay Shetland Sheepdog Club; was a longtime member of the Packerland Kennel Club; Healing Paws of Fond du Lac; and helped out at the Wisconsin Sheltie Rescue. Kaila also enjoyed attending many car shows with her husband.
She is survived by her husband, John; one sister & brother-in-law: Sandra and Dale Havlichek of Two Rivers; one sister-in-law, Carol (Puls) Shimek of Roswell, GA; her special companion dog, Teddy; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Clara Shimek; her brother, Daniel Shimek; an infant sister, Judith Ellen; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Bill and Marie Koerner; and several beloved dogs.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd. Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Dave Pleier, with entombment to follow in Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church Tuesday morning from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. Due to the pandemic, social distance guidelines will be followed and masks will be required.
