MONDAY
– A Manitowoc man is facing charges after a physical altercation with a woman. Officers responded to the Parkview Haven Apartment Complex on the 1300 block of North 8th Street just prior to 1:45 pm on Friday (February 5th). They learned that 65-year-old Wayne A. Martin beat up the victim after she reportedly denied him a kiss.
– Two people had to be treated for injuries following a house fire in Sheboygan over the weekend. Fire crews were dispatched to the 1500 block of Oakland Avenue at around 12:30 PM on Saturday (February 6th), and were informed that some people were trapped on the second floor of the home. Crews were able to rescue the stranded residents, before battling the blaze, which appears to have started in the basement before spreading to the first and second floors.
– The Manitowoc County Health Department completed its COVID-19 vaccination clinic last week having administered 2,600 doses of the Moderna vaccine. According to Health Officer Stephanie Lambert, the Health Department received 400 more doses for a week, with 200 of those going toward second doses. Vaccine eligible individuals continue to include adults 65 and older, frontline healthcare workers, and police and fire personnel. – A local Squirt C hockey team utilized a huge third period on Saturday to punch their ticket to the WAHA State Tournament. The Manitowoc Breakers were down 3-0 entering the final stanza, but ended up defeating Oshkosh in double overtime. The state tournament will begin on March 6th for these young ice hounds.
TUESDAY
– A rollover crash in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids yesterday morning has resulted in the death of a 9-year-old girl, and charges being filed against the driver of the vehicle. The crash occurred on I-43 south of Middle Road at around 8:40 AM, and according to Sheriff Dan Hartwig, a 51-year-old woman was believed to be under the influence. The woman has been charged with Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle, and Operating After Revocation Causing Death.
– Bail has been set at $1.5 million for a teen accused of killing a man at the Fox River Mall and going on the run. 17-year-old Dezman Ellis is facing charges of First-Degree Intentional Homicide and First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety after he allegedly shot and killed 19-year-old Jovanni Frausto on January 31st after an argument over a girl.
-Metro Jam organizers have announced a new partnership between Metro Jam and Grow It Forward Inc. of Manitowoc in presenting the 42nd (almost) Annual free concert. – The names of those involved in a fatal crash Monday in Manitowoc Rapids have been released. 51-year old Monica Michelle Walker has been charged with Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle and Operating After Revocation after she reported flipped her car, killing her 9-year-old granddaughter, Tykia J. Brewer.
– Sheboygan County has been honored by WELCOA (Wellness Council of America’s) with a Bronze designation of a Well County. They are the seventh county in the state to be honored by WELCOA. In order to receive the designation, 20 organizations that employ at least 20% of the county’s workforce need to achieve the status of being a Well Workplace.
-The inaugural Rising Phoenix program at UW Green Bay last year was so successful, that the College and Manitowoc Lincoln High School have announced that another group of students in the Junior class will begin the program this fall. Rising Phoenix is an early college high school program, providing students dual enrollment in high school and the University. – Road America has announced that Vintage Indy™ will return to the event line-up for the REV Group Grand Prix presented by AMR. Fans will be welcome to the 4-day event, which is scheduled for June 17th through the 20th, but will be encouraged to follow safe practices, such as social distancing or wearing a cloth face-covering where social distancing is difficult to maintain.
THURSDAY
– Students in the Manitowoc Public School District will soon be able to see all of their friends every school day again. The MPSD announced early yesterday (February 10th) that all students in grades 4k through 12 will be returning to in-person learning five days a week starting Monday, March 8th.

– A former substitute teacher and volleyball coach in Oconto Falls has been sentenced in a sexual assault case. 31-year-old Brynn Larsen has pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of Third-Degree Sexual Assault, but three other dismissed charges will be considered at her April 20th sentencing.
– The newest food pantry in Manitowoc recently received a generous donation from the newest grocery store in the city. Meijer donated $2,500 to Grow it Forward to help them continue to help feed the Clipper City.
FRIDAY
– The Manitowoc Police Department has arrested a woman after she reportedly stole a car. The victim reported the theft at 7:15 PM and told officers that he had parked the vehicle in front of Auto Werks, when he came back out, the car was gone. Less than half an hour later, the vehicle was seen traveling on Calumet Avenue, near South 37th Street, and the driver was arrested.
– Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Sponsored Ministries, Inc., the parent organization of Manitowoc’s Holy Family Memorial, has announced that CEO Brett Norell will be stepping down once their merger with Froedtert is finalized. He’ll remain on staff to oversee the transition until the agreement with Froedtert is finalized, which is expected to happen sometime in early 2021.
– If you see a large number of law enforcement personnel at the Fox River Mall this weekend, there is no need to fret, they are simply performing an emergency training drill. Outagamie County authorities will be joined by numerous other agencies from around the country for the training exercise, which was actually planned before the fatal shooting incident at the end of January.
– A senior at Roncalli High School has signed a national letter of intent to go to UW Stout in Menomonie Wisconsin. Maya Lusk, the daughter of Brett and Mary Lusk, will be participating in track and field at UW-Stout after graduating from Roncalli High School in spring 2021. Lusk plans to pursue a degree in psychology at UW-Stout.
