After a summer of inactivity due to Covid-19, the Manitowoc Family Aquatic Center is scheduled to open in less than three months with longer hours and some new offerings.
Curt Hall, the Division Manager for the City of Manitowoc Park and Recreation Department, said they’re planning for a return to activity at the aquatic center this summer. Hall spoke of the expansion at the Citizen Park facility when it opens in June, explaining that “there is a new splash pad, warming pool and a 2nd covered reservable space as part of the phase-3 expansion by the Friends of the Aquatic Center.”
Hall explains that all goes hand-in-hand with an expanded schedule. “We’re going to be open more Tuesday through Sunday with two sessions per day between 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM along with a safety break to do some cleaning,” he said. “The first session will be from 9:00 until 1:30 PM and then 2:30 to 7:00 PM.” Curt Hall says the plan is to have the aquatic center open from June 12th until August 28th, which is one additional week compared to past summers. He does say the aquatic center will be closed Mondays for staff training, cleaning and the return of swimming lessons. Meanwhile, Hall stated city officials are working on the final stages of the Lincoln Park Zoo’s Master Plan, “and, that’s going to give a really clear roadmap of where we’re going to go in the future with that facility, just to make sure the Lincoln Park Zoological Society and the city are all on the same page. We have some really cool ideas coming out of that master plan.”
Also, the zoo Education Building and the Big Red Barn are scheduled to re-open this year after being closed for the pandemic, but with safety precautions in place.
