Arnold “Arnie” E. Kempfert, age 87, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at his residence.
Arnie was born on May 28, 1933 at the family home in Maribel to the late Otto and Eleanore (Westphal) Kempfert. He graduated from Denmark High School with the class of 1951. Arnie enlisted with the United States Army in 1955 and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1957. On June 29, 1957, Arnie married Gerlinde Weidenauer in Weinheim, Germany. She preceded him in death on March 27, 2015. He had worked as a mason tender from 1962 to 1995. Arnie enjoyed playing golf, sheepshead, and softball for the city league. He loved going camping and travelling with his family and friends. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren. He was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church and the German Singing Society.
Survivors include Arnie’s daughter, Linda Mumpy, Manitowoc; two grandchildren, Andrew (Janet) Mumpy, Missouri City, TX; and Michelle (Mitchell Thies) Mumpy, Blackhawk, CO; three great granddaughters, Hayley, Leila, and Elise; sister, Velma Buth, Manitowoc; also other relatives and friends. Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Eleanore Kempfert; wife, Gerlinde; brother, Frederik Kempfert; sister, Lorraine Zeamer; and son-in-law, Keith Mumpy.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 9, 2021 at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 South 8th Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Jacob Hoff will officiate with burial of Arnie’s cremated remains to take place at Knollwood Memorial Gardens. Following the memorial service, a luncheon for family and friends will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. The family will greet relatives and friends at First German Ev.
