Annette Ziegler has been chosen by the justices on the Wisconsin Supreme Court to be the new chief justice.
Ziegler replaces 80-year-old Patience Roggensack who has been on the court since 2003 and served as chief justice for the last five years.
Before 2015, the chief justice was always automatically the longest-serving member of the state’s high court.
The 57-year-old Ziegler was elected to the court in 2007.
She and Roggensack are part of the high court’s four-justice conservative majority.
