The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says turkey hunting is one of the state’s “more steady sports.”
Assistant Upland Wildlife Ecologist Alaina says that there have been consistent declines in small game hunting and deer hunting, but turkey hunting numbers are stable.
Gerrits says it’s a more active hunting experience when you call turkeys and you’re working the birds and moving around.
More than 130,000 people have applied for permits for the spring hunt which starts today (April 21st).
